Like Tim said a few days ago, the trail is hard packed and easily barebootable, microspikeable, or MSRable. We chose the latter. There are a few icy spots, but all in all the trail is in great shape. The only problem we had is that the freakin' PUDs at the top seem to just keep going up and down and up and down and up... ok enough...
We started out under clear skies, no wind and -2F temps. We walked quickly to start and got warmed up and eventually found an equilibrium. The view points were awesome. We summited in about 3.5 hours and were down in about 2, with a 15 minute break at the top. This 'litttle' peak has a lot of elevation gain, since the trailhead is quite low. We did 3600' of elevation gain today over 9 miles.
Tim was that your giant ?
P.S. I was amazed at how well packed down the trail was after the spur path to the summit. I guess a lot of people are doing traverses.
