Mount Jefferson (Attempt)
Castle Trail / Israel Ridge Path / Castle Ravine Trail (turn around at 4400 feet) / Emerald Trail / Israel Ridge Path / The Link (briefly, to check out the flat ledge at top of First Cascade) / Israel Ridge Path / Castle Trail
Date of Hike: 01/01/2014 (Wednesday)
Trail Conditions: All trails below treeline had 3-6 inches of fresh snow covering all ice - no traction needed, Castle Ravine Trail above treeline was very slow going as there was just enough snow covering talus fields to make every step slow and steady.
Special Equipment Required: No traction needed, but a few sections (Emerald Trail ascent) were borderline light traction, snowshoes below treeline are a viable option. All gear/clothing for low temperatures and very high winds necessary.
Comments: All water crossings (and there's a lot of them) had nice snow bridges for easy crossing. Visibility was decent, bitter cold day, just ran out of time to make summit. Photos/video (and eventually a trip report) can be found here http://brian03104.blogspot.com/2014/01/01012014-mount-jefferson-attempt.html
