Arrived at Park HQ for a traditional 11am alpine start. The lot was full and perhaps 100 hikers total today on the trails. The White Dot had several inches of packed snow monorail that had many spots that turned to slush later in the day, making the steep areas of the descent very slippery. A good amount of bare rock above treeline, so one never “needs” crampons. Most people used microspikes, as we did, or stablicers. I saw everything in between from crampons(considering balling from wet slush on microspikes actually not the worst idea if it perhaps overkill) to sneakers and jeans and no pack, I joke not. Great day out with mostly blue skies and an exhilarating alpine feel to hike the summit area in winter.
