On Monday I climbed up Mount Paugus in the rain and fog. I went up the Big Rock Cave trail to the Old Paugus Trail to the summit. I came down by way of the Lawrence trail to the Cabin trail back to route 113.
Date of Hike: Monday 12/1/2008
Trail Conditions: Snow down low was 2"-3" deep but up higher it got to be as much as 12". Lots of water, crossing Whitten brook was a little tricky due to high water.
Special Equipment Required: None with the exception of very water proof boots and clothing.
Comments: The sign at the junction of the Big Rock Cave trail and the Old Paugus trail is missing. It is a little tricky finding the yellow trail blazes of Old Paugus trail. If you go the wrong way you will end up back at the Whitten Brook trail. A great day to be out even in the fog and rain. Strange though I didn't see another person on the trail.
