Date of Hike: Mar. 14, 2013
Trail Conditions: Mount Tecumseh Trail is in great shape considering all the rain we had a few days ago. The trail is wider than most snowshoe trails and surprisingly there are very few post holes along the way. The snowshoe police must patrol this trail a lot. The cold weather since the rain has made the snow pack solid. I used Microspikes car to car and didn't post hole once. The stream right at the trail head is completely open. I'm not sure if it is normally bridged or not. The water was low and you can rock hop it without getting your feet wet. The second and third stream crossings are bridged and they seem to be quite solid.
Special Equipment Used: Light traction is all that is needed right now. I had no issues climbing and coming down the mountain with Microspikes. I saw two other couples on the trail. One couple had Microspikes on and the other couple had snowshoes on. Snowshoes with the heel lift bars up would probably be a good idea for that long steady climb up to the peak.
Comments: I saw evidence of some butt sliding on the way today (but not by me).
