what's the status of the fire tower and subsequent views up there? i know the tower was restored but i've heard conflicting news as to whether it was still open.

According to the DEC Website ( http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9198.html ):

The cab of the Mt. Adams Fire Tower was heavily damaged by windstorms. The fire tower is closed to public access until DEC can make repairs to the structure.

**UPDATE** - We are currently working with the DEC to get the tower fully restored and open (once again) to the public. Our target is the Spring of 2010. The wheels never move that quick when the state is involved.
