Two very large groups hiked Mt. Carrigain on Saturday, March 14, 2011.

The first water crossing still has a very thick bridge...but not all the way across. One has to step down into the water perhaps over a yard, walk through the water, and then step up about a yard to get to the other side. Instead, one can keep walking over the bridge on Sawyer River Rd and take a bushwhacked trail around the first crossing entirely.

The trail from the road to the summit is now packed down thoroughly. The snow on Saturday was very dense, very heavy, and now the trail is nicely packed down.

There are a half dozen blow downs or so. None all that hard, and the normal spots on the trail where there is bare rock on one normally has to be cautious are under so much snow that one can't even tell where those spots are.

Snowshoes from start to finish.

Wait for a clear day, and then head up and enjoy!

Oops, I forgot to mention the second stream crossing.

It was a warm day on Sunday, following two warm days, and I was worried that between the rain and snow melting that the second stream crossing would be high.

It wasn't. Not at all. No higher than usual.

We simply walked across in our snow shoes, stepping on the rocks, and that was that.
