Mt. Chocorua via Bolles Trail, Bee Line Trail, Brook Trail, Liberty Trail

Date of Hike: Sunday, May 3, 2009

Trail Conditions: Mostly bare

Special Equipment Required: None

Comments:

Paugus Mill parking area open and dry.

Bolles Trail to Bee Line - Mostly dry trail, snow/ice free. First water crossing easily done, subsequent crossings have bridges. I removed a bunch of blowdowns and tried to clear a path through the remaining ones, which will require a chainsaw.

Bee Line to Brook Trail - Mostly dry trail, snow/ice free. Water crossings no problem. I removed a bunch of blowdowns, I think a few chainsaw ones remain (I forget!).

Brook Trail to Liberty Trail - Mostly dry trail, ledges damp in a few places. Two tiny patches of snow that can be avoided and will probably be gone very soon. No ice. I removed a few blowdowns, so this short section is now blowdown free. 2nd hand information - Brook Trail below Bee Line junction is snow/ice free as well.

Liberty Trail from Paugus Mill to the ridge - snow/ice free. Water crossings doable, but a little bit mucky. Some extended wet/mud patches down low. I removed all but four blowdowns (chainsaw needed).

Liberty Trail from ridge to Brook Trail junction - A few patches of snow, should be gone before week is over. Mostly dry trail. No blowdowns remain.

Liberty Trail from Brook Trail junction to summit - one tiny patch of snow (should be gone very soon), otherwise mostly dry.

Additional 2nd hand information - still snow on Champney Brook Trail.

Some mosquitoes at Paugus Mill (already!), not yet biting.
