12/8/08:
Marley and Me (sounds like a book turning into a movie) decided to go for hike in the AM due to the balmy weather (-6 at trailhead). The trail is hard packed and I bare booted to the summit. I brought traction devices (crampons & snowshoes) but I did not feel it necessary to wear them (Marley didn’t need them why should I?). It was a glorious day with bright sunshine. Snow depth was ~ 2’ at the summit. We (like Marley had a choice) decided not to due the loop as time was playing factor for me (I was home by 10:30 AM).
Special Equipment: Full Winter gear was needed. I have a staff (Maple Walking Staff) which was helpful. Crampons would have helped on that short section just below Avalon.
BTW Marley is my Dog!
