The gate to the gale river loop road is open so you can now park at the trailhead. The river crossings are ankle deep and easily crossable. Trail has some water and mud at spots but nothing bad. The snowpack starts continually at around 3300 ft. It was very hard packed on this day so I was able to stay on top. There is a lot of snow still and this could prove burdensome when it softens. The summit is free of snow and ice. It was a gorgeous day, a little breezy. Good visibility with some lovely shades of blue and green over the pemi. As for equipment I found poles very helpful and you still probably should use winter boots. I brought my beater snowshoes as I always do this time of year when going above 3000 ft. I did not use them but there may come of day where they would be necessary for short stints.
