Date of Hike: 10/31-11/1 '09
Trail Conditions: Trail was snow free, big contrast from two weeks ago, leaf-strewn at lower elevations and kind of muddy higher up. Some blow downs, nothing major. Stream crossings more fun than difficult.
Special Equipment Required: Staff, poles, or just a good stick for stream crossings. Single leki staff also helpful for negotiating leaves at lower elevations and for probing mud higher up.
A great Halloween overnight. Spent the 31st in decaying Rocky Branch #2 shelter. Rained for a few hours and definitely plenty coming in thro' holes in roof, but there were enough dry spaces for 4-5 sleepers (there were three that night). Nice views in all directions but North in morning. Great moose sighting--a huge male in woods off Isolation Trail. Surprisingly easy hike aside from stream crossings, which weren't at all bad last weekend.
