Mt. Jackson via Webster-Jackson Trail

Date of Hike: 11/19/08

Trail Conditions: Dusting of snow from the outset with few easily bypassed icy sections earlyon. First brook crossing was glare ice with some very wet sections afterward. Trail got icier after splitting off on Jackson Branch with ledges below summit being especially precarious. There were a few blowdowns along the way, most were easily bypassed but a couple are bigger and block a good portion of trail, with fresh snow covering the ground I momentarily lost the trail due to one of them resembling a dead-end. Snow was about 4-5 inches in the deepest spots.

Special Equipment Required: Warm clothing was a must, and poles were helpful for balance. MICROspikes or other light traction also highly recommended.

Comments: Optional - It was actually a pretty warm day once the blood got pumping, but the wind on the summit was relentless and brutally cold, and a light snow shower kicked up while I was on the way down. Felt like January.

Great trail and I enjoyed having it to myself. Though if I was with someone else they probably would have remembered fresh batteries for the camera. :(
