great day in the franconia tundra!!! almost 20 years since i'd last climbed lafayette. sun/clouds early, then more clouds in pm. excellent weather overall. breezy & cold on the summit, but not bad. enuf snow/ice above 3,500' to warrant footgear. shoulda put my microspikes on sooner! btw...THEY R A LIFESAVER!!!! u gotta have em for icy conditions. saw lots of them, plus folks with full crampons. bareboot hikers were slipping a lot. 3:40 up the OBP/2:50 back down. the hut's a nice place to rest/eat lunch/check gear. not bad for a flatlander from RI?!!!? my friends from meredith & exit 28 woulda loved it!
