had an interesting story on hiking Mt Marcy, and continuing to Panther Gorge. Somewhat of a retrospective of author William James trip there in 1898.

Nice article thanks for posting it. Mount Marcy is a great hike and the Adirondack Loj is a very special place for kids... both young and old. I'm glad I got to finally experience both.

Great Marcy quote today

On the evening news tonight the Governor of New York, Elliot Spitzer, was talking of great reasons to go to upstate NY. One of them was the High Peaks, and Mount Marcy ... (paraphrasing, but pretty close...) "After having just climbed Mount Marcy I can say it is a demanding climb but one of the most rewarding things one can do in New York."

I would agree. And a pretty cool thing to hear your Governor say. However, you should have heard what he had to say about climbing Couchie ...
