Mt. Moriah via Carter-Moriah Trail

Date of Hike: 05/24/09

Participants: me and crazy Bob

Trail Conditions: Trail is fine shape with just a few patches of snow just before the summit. A few large blow downs. Rocky slabs slippery when wet.

Special Equipment: Bugdope, lots of caffeine, and as always- Little Debbie snacks or equivalent fast digesting carbs.

Comments: Clouds to start, then turned to light drizzle up to summit and back down a ways. Sun broke free of the clouds on the final couple miles. Came across fresh moose droppings on the trail. Views from the top weren't bad considering the degree of clouds. Good views across the Wild River valley into Maine. To the South and West was another story. Anybody on the Wildcats and Carters must have got soaked as there were some just plain nasty clouds hovering over the range. At times got glimpses of Madison and the ravines. The rest of the Presi's were in the clouds. Bob and I took turns slipping on the wet ledges on the way down. I believe the score was tied at 3 when last tallied. 9am start, hit the summit at 12:05, 15 minute drizzly view break, back down to the car at 2:40pm, 9 miles later. No broken bones, no blood......pretty uneventful hike, but another 4k off the list.
