Date of hike: 3/22/08
Mountain: Mt. Passaconaway (4,043)
Trail: Dicey's Mill (9.2 mi. roundtrip, 2950 ft. elevation gain)
Trail conditions: From the parking area to the end of the plowed road it was tire-rutted ice (quite slippery). From the road to the summit the trail was broken out and snow depths ranged from 1-2 feet where the plowing stopped to 4-5 feet on the upper elevations. Many blazes and signs were at, or just above, snow level. From just below the junction with the Rollins trail to the summit it was frequently necessary to crouch or crawl under branches because of the snow depth.
Equipment: Snowshoes were essential to avoid postholing.
