Mt. Pemigewasset via Mt. Pemigewasset Trail
Date of Hike: Saturday, February 16, 2008
Trail Conditions: Loose granular
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes recommended
Comments:
Second highway underpass is solid ice - probably not a bad idea to put on snowshoes at the parking lot.
Probably half a foot of snow under almost an inch of crust, under about 2-3" of powder. I ended up breaking trail after the first mile. Trail is now well packed, though I would recommend snowshoes. Blazes are only 18" above the snow up high.
Brook crossings no problem. There are a few blowdowns, though the trail goes around them. One low hanger up near the summit that you have to get down low under. Indian Head Trail was not broken.
