Trail is generally packed snow with many footprints of varying depths. Lots of huge moose prints (and more) toward the top. Route is in great shape, no blowdowns at all, as usual (thanks again, Carole). Upper ledges are bare but people have skied around them in the open woods. High Ridge Trail toward Faraway, wherever that is, did not appear broken, possibly one set of post holes. Unmaintained secret-squirrel carriage roads down low had all seen snowshoe traffic, probably people armed with TB's wonderful new map.
I wore snowshoes to allow travel off-trail in the open, enchanted oak forest, a joy. Trail could be bare booted. Skiing the route would be challenging in current conditions; it needs some fresh cover.
After the mob conditions in the Presidentials last weekend, Mt. Roberts was just the ticket. I saw no one and wandered off the trail to my heart's content. Nice views of the lakes, Presidentials and other Whites and local peaks. Many interesting tracks. One of my favorite places.
