Mt. Surprise, Mt. Moriah via Carter-Moriah Trail
Date of Hike: Sunday, February 2, 2009
Trail Conditions: Packed powder
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes
Comments:
Limited parking available on Bangor Road (depending upon how vehicles park, 3-5...I was probably not parked in an good location, but I didn't want to have to park in town and walk over the snowmobile bridge). The overflow area a few hundred feet down the road isn't available, as the snowmobile trail passes right through it.
Carter-Moriah Trail all the way to the top of Mt. Moriah is well packed. I did not bother to break out the bushwhack to the summit of Mt. Surprise (no redeeming qualities to that peak).
I was able to remove all but one blowdown and a few widowmakers/hangers, which will require saws larger than mine.
