My running friend Robyn & I decided to hike Mt. Waumbek on a weekday i.e. Friday. Drove up from Boston. There was snow/ice on I93 in NH, with some cars off of the road and so it took us a little longer to get to the Waumbek trailhead. Parked on the approach road to the trailhead. Didn't see any other cars or hikers except for a mom playing with her kids in the snow. And of course, there was the adorable puppy playing in the snow too.
We geared up and started hiking in our snowshoes. There was fresh unbroken powder till Starr King. And then the unbroken powder on the ridge increased to just over a foot deep. The trail gains elevation gently all the way till the ridge. Did a little bit of route finding all the trail is very well marked with the yellow blazes.
Hiked from Starr King to Mt. Waumbek although we initially didn't see the marker. And I hadn't hiked this in a while. So, we searched for the summit marker and found it hidden on the left side on a tree at knee height. It's an unusual marker and looks like a yellow vertical strip of food nailed on the tree.
All in all a beautiful day with 7 hours of driving and fours of hiking![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
