Date Hiked: 26-Jan-2008
Conditions: Trail is in great shape. Hard-packed snow for most part, with lighter & fluffier snow between Starr-King and Waumbek.
Special Equipment Needed: Would recommend snowshoes and trekking poles.
(Met quite a few hikers on the trail, and they also were using snowshoes and trekking poles!)
Comments: Z-man and I hiked together today and were able to add Waumbek to our Winter 48 lists.
Due to a persistent (but gradually clearing) cloud cover, distant views were unavailable from either Starr-King or from the blowdown viewpoint just beyond the Waumbek summit. However, there were some photos taken along the way. And, there were some nice shots available on the drive home, just beyond the Starr-King trailhead on Route 2.
