trails: ethan pond trail, willey range trail, mt. tom spur, a-z trail, avalon trail

conditions: road into the summer ethan pond trailhead is clear. lower ethan pond trail was snow free then a solid coating up to the willey range junction. depths increased heading to a couple inches up to willey, but given the number of people on the trail it is all packed down firm. no ice of note on the steep ascent around the ladders and the wet snow provided good grip. these same nice snow conditions continued across the ridge and on to tom. pretty much perfect for walking in microspikes. descending the snow began to peter out below the avalon/a-z junction then it was more muddy with patchy snow and ice down to the notch. water crossings were not an issue. our group removed a few blowdowns, but a couple of larger diameter remain on the ridge.

equipment: light traction recommended.

comments: beautiful day on the willey range. no wind and relatively warm temps. a huge congratulations to cynthia (a.k.a. lady grey) on her completion of the nh48 GRID. a nice day out with a great group of folks to celebrate her achievement.
