There is tons of snow in the woods! We followed a broken trail through very deep snow to Pierce with a little wind pack up high. On the way to Eisenhower we overtook Andrew and Peg breaking and broke the rest of the way to Ike. Able to find a few spruce traps. Trail is now well-broken but still with opportunities for sinking deep with snowshoes on. Minimal blowdowns. A few stretches of ice between the peaks. Group we met up with (see below) was continuing over to Monroe. Another person had skied up the Crawford Path and was descending Edmands, but his tracks won't be much help for snowshoers. Mizpah Cut-off was not broken when we passed it.
Snowshoes, car-to-car!
It was like Old Home Day on both peaks. Great to see Hiker Ed, Jim C. and Helen G. again as well as meet Becca, whose reports we've been reading all this time. Also nice to meet Chris, Tim, Andrew and Peg as well as the others along. I'm sure Becca will be posting the rest of their trip soon.
So much snow in the woods that our waist-mounted water bottle carriers were dragging in the snow along the side of the trail and poles were of little use much of the time. Thanks to those who did the stiff breaking before us! Absolutely beautiful all day.
