When I originally had posted I was hiking the Tripyramids I wasn’t expecting too many takers seeing that it was New Years Day Eve and it being sort of a last minute plan. To my surprise though there was some interest and we ended up with a fine group of five: myself, kmac, Mad Townie, Marsha and Dave.

We met up at the Pine Bend Trail around 8:00 and headed off just before 8:30. With all the rain earlier in the week I was expecting the trails to be quite icy but to my surprise once again, the trail was well packed with practically no ice at all. The past few weekends I had been out we had to work hard at breaking trail but today was a real treat and it was nice to hike along without too much effort. :)

The first couple of miles to the wilderness boundary were pleasant and the stream crossing posed no problems whats so ever. With the tress being bare from leaves we were also able to enjoy some nice but limited views along the way. The relatively flat part soon ended though and we then began our ascent up to the junction with the Scaur Ridge Trail. We encountered one blow down on this section that required us to practically crawl under on our bellies!

After about 4 hours or so we finally reached the summit of N Tripyramid. We stopped here for a while and rested, had some snacks and then got ready for the trip over to M Tripyramid. This next section of the trail was broken out as well but the trail was not as consolidated but it was still bare bootable. From this summit we had some fine views towards Passaconnoway and the Waterville Ski area but they were quickly obscured by some incoming low clouds. I guess we had timed our arrival just right!

Arriving back at N Tri we met up with a couple of other hikers, one who graciously took pictures for us with all our cameras and another who had just come up the North Slide Trail by himself! We then started to make our way down back to the cars as a few in the group had to get back home in time for celebrating. This was the best part of the whole day! Although none of us had a swiss bob sled we were still able to get in some good butt sliding on the way down!

Many thanks to all of you who came along on this hike! It was a fantastic day! Here are a few pictures from out trip.

MEB,

Thanks to you and your group for breaking trail. We followed in your footsteps on Monday and had excellent trail conditions. Nice TR and photos.

MEB, fine TR as usual. John, we didn't break any trail--it was like walking on a sidewalk the whole way, bare boot with NO postholing at all.

It really was fun to watch the clouds come into the valleys and gradually obscure the views. The temps were in the 20s, very comfortable, and of course the company was superb! :) Altogether a fine day in the woods. (Thanks, MEB, for organizing it!)

We even got to drive home before all the New Year's Eve crazies came out!
