Lots of snow around but all trails were well packed out, as reported yesterday. This route is more pedestrian than in prior winters due to the uniform snow cover, even in the normally more difficult sections. Minimal ice, no bad blowdowns. Great snowshoeing. Mt. Kinsman Trail was not broken out.
Although we saw people on everything from Swiss Bobs to light trail shoes, snowshoes were the way to go today for traction and flotation. Hikers were making out OK without them but at the expense of efficiency.
Probably the most people we've ever encountered on a winter hike, all with smiles. Ridge was its usual magical place in spite of very limited views. Occasional spindrift facials added to the adventure.
