Everytime I do this hike I recall what a great hike this is! I think this is becoming my favorite because of seeing the snowcapped Presidentials and Franconia Ridge from the summit. A long day...maybe 13 miles. I'm pooped
I started from the Seven Dwarfs Motel. They were not open yet so I made a point to pay when I returned.
From the trailhead, the trail was nicely broken and packed (really packed well). I only used microspikes the whole day. The trail crosses the Little River a number of times and all snowbridges are intact. At first I followed the main trail; the trail between the first and second crossing was hardly used. I would suggest you stay on the left bank where the trail is well-packed.
There is a decent sized pine tree that broke-off on the way to the first crossing and is in the middle of the trail. It is hung up on another tree. I suspect with a good wind it might come crashing down blocking the trail. There also was a noteworthy blowdown just before the steep section up N. Twin where hikers are walking around it.
