nh campgrounds

Any good recommendations for a cg in between the n conway and gorham areas? I am looking at hiking adams or madison sometime this week, and would like a cheap state park or cg (<$20) to pitch a tent. Are there any problems finding sites midweek this time of year?

NH Campground

Dolly Copp is in the area you described. I haven't stayed there in quite a few years, but it was very nice.

I stayed at Dolly Copp mid-week last week. There were plenty of sites available. There are no showers at the CG, but Pinkham Notch is just down the road; remember to take some quarters.

From Dolly Copp it's a quick hop over Pinkham B to Rte 2 and the Appalachia or Lowes Path trailheads.

The Daniel Webster Scout Trails goes directly from the Dolly Coop Campground to Mt Madison. The campground is very nice with lots of great sites & many should be open for a few days midweek.

thanks for the info, trout. I was going to park at appalachia and do madison and adams from there, but if the trails start right from the campground that might be a lot easier.

When I stayed at Dolly Copp, I took the Great Gulf to the Madison Gulf and ascended. That was fun. I returned via the Osgood. That hike was one heluva dayhike. When I was finished I was pooped. And the Madison Gulf - WOW!!!

I stayed at Moose Brook State Park in Gorham the last time I hiked Madison and Adams. I think it's about $16 per night if you're tenting plus a buck or two fee if you make a reservation. They also have a showers available.

Moose Brook is very nice--showers and swimming in a sand-bottom "pool"--and no further from Appalachia than Dolly Copp, in fact, probably a quicker drive.
