Nice new bench on Cannon Rim Tr.

Well, new to me anyway...

I was up Cannon back on 5/22. Took Hi-Cannon and Kinsman Ridge to the top, looped around the Rim Tr., then down via Lonesome Lake. The mountain was very nice without the tram going, didn't see a soul.

But on the Rim Tr. there is a nice new granite bench with a great quote inscribed: "If you love someone, tell them. Most importantly, stay close to your friends, let it make a difference in your day and theirs." - Jerry Warlop

I found it quite nice to sit on, looking at the Franconia Range before me, and think about those important in my life. Made even better by the fact that I was alone on Cannon!!

Did a google search and found an article which mentions it's approval by the NH Executive Council near the bottom in the bulleted section.

Anyone know anything else about Jerry Warlop? He's from NY state, so why a bench in Franconia Notch?

Jerry Warlop, 59, of North Smithfield, RI, was killed on December 4, 2002, by a passing motorist while rescuing a passenger from a burning car on a highway. Jerry was an Alpine Level I Member of PSIA-E, having become a member in 1992. He had taught at Mohawk Mt. Learning Center and Cannon Mt.

Wow, pretty f'in courageous of him.

I'd say that's very deserving of a fine bench in one's name.
