mcrat was unable to go monday, but nhmtnhiker i had invited the night before and he is always up for a hike. since we always hike after work, and had the whole day this time, he suggested the entire AT from georgia to maine for the day. I suggested spur trail up adams instead. It was snowing out when we left, lightly. We went up the amphibrach, very pleasant walk thru the woods. This comes to the pentadoi and you go about 100 feet and there is the spur trail. quite steep but real nice. we wore stabilicers. partway up this i managed to bash my head on a jagged short branch sticking out from a tree that was down overhead that i didnt see. Bob said I was bleeding like a stuck pig, and not wanting to miss a photo op, told him quickly to do the important thing and document the carnage with his camera. In about 45 minutes we did the 1200 vertical up to crag camp and took a break and ate. no one was there, it was colder in than out. no views at all due to the snow and clouds. we stayed there about 35 minutes, bout long enough to get cold. We headed up a bit more and came to treeline. Visibility was about 60 feet..bout enough to see the next cairn. It appeared pointless to continue. The cone of Adams would have been big rocks with cracks not filled in completely with snow yet, would have been way too tedious, with no views. Back we headed. Bob saw an otter on the way back at the bridge crossing. We headed home in the inch or two of snow, and, while bragging about my new snow tires, slid around in a few 360's and went off the road. What a life. I was driving slow too. I probably annoyed a few drivers going 25 mph from twin mountain thru franconia notch to Lincoln, but it's not all fun. So I was covered with blood on my head, and had a sore back from the spinout. At least I got a good hike.
