Climbed Noonmark yesterday with 3 other members of the Paul Smith's Outing Club. The parking lot was fairly full when we arrived. Saw one person in jeans and sneakers who was planning on hiking Nippletop. (Don't think he made it- it was already afternoon by the time we showed up, and his car was gone when we got back around 5:30).
The trail was pretty wet and muddy. The going is pretty good until about half way up the mountain, where the snow starts to hamper your progress. Snowshoes werent a necessity as the trail had been packed down pretty well, but it was very slippery in spots. There were also a lot of down trees on the first half of the trail, mainly beeches that still had leaves on and had bent and snapped due to the snow.
The top was very windy, but not especially cold. I only needed a windbreaker over my t-shirt to stay comfortable. The descent was mainly a controlled slide due to all the snow and running water. It got dark when we were about 2/3rds of the way down the mountain, so headlamps are a must if you set out in the afternoon.
Finished the hike in about 4 and a half to 5 hours, and went to the Noonmark Inn for dinner.
Bonus: Some panoramas I took while hiking:
