trails: pine bend brook, mt. tripyramid

conditions: broken crust with a bit of granular powder over packed base was the story of the day. this was softening in most places by the afternoon. the many small water crossings were all fine. some still snowbridged and some not. scaur ridge trail had some tracks, but don't know if they go all the way down. trail from north slide has been travelled as has sabbaday brook, but not in the last week or two.

equipment: wore snowshoes for most of day. used crampons for the steep pitch out of the ravine on ascent and descent. could probably struggle through this section with snowshoes, but crampons were the safer bet.

comments: a beautiful windless day. just the sounds of broken crust sliding down through the woods and ice falling from the spruce and firs on the ridge. great views from middle peak and from open area about 25 yds down trail to north slide. nice to see ron, rick, janis and teddy out there.
