It was a rain threatened day, but it never did rain on us.
The trail up to the river crossings is in very good condition. We took the alternate spur trail to avoid the first two crossings. It's obvious we were not the only ones to do this. The trail is so well defined that with the exception of a few minor blowdowns it was in as good condition as the official trail. There is no way you can call this trail a bushwhack.
At the third crossing we followed a herd trail up above the crossing. We found a fairly easy passage out to the bar in the middle of the river. We walked back down the bar almost to the area of the official crossing and rock hopped to the shore. It worked so well that we retraced our path on the return.
The trail is in need of some brushing here and there between the river and the top. Even worse, from the open ledges to the top the trail is almost completely overgrown. With all the water on the trees I was completly soaked when we finally reached the top. Lauky was close enough to the ground that he missed the worst of it. If the trees are alowed to continue to encroch on the trail it won't be long before the trail will become impassable. This part of the trail could be described as a bushwhack.
No work has been done on that section of the trail since I was up there last fall.
The top was in the clouds and very windy especially at the top of South Twin. The NE wind was not too bad going over toward South Twin but it and the mist hit right in the face on the way back.
There was some mud here and there on the trail, but nothing that was particularly difficult to get by.
There were no views at all today and we got very wet. We saw no one all day long but it was the perfect way to spend the day with my best friend.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
