Started at North Dome Trailhead, Devil's Path, trail broken. We, Bill and I, headed up the eastern shoulder of North Dome. The snow was very crusty and not totally supportive. The climb to the northern shoulder is steep with numerous rock formations. The summit is typical of the Catskills, relatively flat. From the canister we headed west for the narrow col which we hit dead-on. Again the eastern slope of Sherrill is cluster with rock formations which were easy to work around. After the canister we headed southwest for the Shaft road parking area. We encounter very high winds and whirling snow. At times the wind gust must have been in the 50 to 60 mph range. Surprisingly the harsh wind only slightly numbed the skin.
We worn snowshoes all day, no need for crampons or mircospikes. The crusty snow made us work at times. Date of hike, Feb. 19th
