North Tripyramid, Middle Tripyramid via Pine Bend Brook Trail, Tripyramid Loop
Date of Hike: Sunday, March 22, 2009
Trail Conditions: Frozen granular
Special Equipment Required: Traction
Comments:
Room for a few vehicles to park on the side of Route 112.
I was able to make it up and back with Microspikes, though they were being pushed to the limit. The two sets of steeps (just after the Wilderness Boundary, and the final ascent up the north peak) perhaps would have been better done in crampons, especially for the descent, as there was a slight glaze over a flat bed from glissaders.
About a quarter of an inch of new snow starting around 2,500' or so. Footbed is blown over with windblown near the Scaur Ridge Trail junction.
About half the water crossings are still bridged. The open water crossings are rock hoppable at the moment.
There are blowdowns on both trails, but nothing you can't get around.
