North branch of the Old Job Trail (USFS 30 to Big Branch is in great shape. A quick shower on Sunday morning put only a bit more water into Lake Brook. Trail is clear, well-blazed, easy to follow to Old Job Shelter. The level of the brook is down so 6'1" could cross on step stones. Boots were taken off by 5'7" to accomplish the crossing.
It didn't matter that we'd kept our feet dry, because the meadow was sopping wet at 7:30 in the morning. It's much easier to follow the trail through here at this time of year than it will be in late summer. There are areas with vegetation three or more feet tall already.
On returning to our car at USFS 30, we encountered a crew bringing in heavy equipment to place the laminated beam bridge that should go up over the next few weeks, making a dry crossing of the stream possible at all times (though not guaranteeing a dry crossing of the meadow at any time).
No other hikers encountered - just a three-man crew with the tracked crane and evidence (sets of hiking poles) that people were still in residence at Old Job Shelter.
