Joined Becca M and Eric R on a NH AMC hike up East Osceola and Osceola from the Greeley Ponds TH on the Kanc.
The trails were pretty well broken out most of the way. We started in snowshoes mainly for their traction. Up on the steeps we eventually came to a section that was steep and icy. After one aborted attempt, we stopped and cramponed up. The slide near the top had good snow pack and didn't feel at all dangerous. Nice views. Up on the ridge there was some drifting of snow, but not worth a change back to 'shoes.
Didn't look like anyone had been up or down the "chimney" itself. The bypass was being used for both ascents and descents. The lowest ten feet of the bypass are an awkward scramble even in 'pons.
Required equipment - crampons and poles
Useful - snowshoes
Beautiful day if rather cold and breezy up top. Those steeps make for a pretty challenging hike.
