How does New England get 6 inches, and the Adirondacks gets just a dusting?

... out to see if we can get first tracks on Mt. Pemi :D
Back from a delightful short hike.

Yesterday we were planning a late start on Mt. Pemi, but when we saw the snow this morning we quickly had breakfast and raced to get to the trailhead before anyone else.

Sure enough, when we reached the Flume parking the snowbanks were intact. So we put on our snowshoes in the car, and quickly found ourselves breaking through a foot of delightful fluffy powder. Hard work for two not very fit hikers, but very enjoyable.

We really need not have rushed to get there first; we met nobody on the entire trip.

The first snowshoes hike for me this winter :D :D :D

Roughly 6" in Gorham overnight. Very powdery on top of slick icy layer below left over from earlier in the week. It may make for some interesting slide conditions as there will be littel consolidated between the two layers of snow.
