What an absolutely beautiful hike we had to do our 16th fire tower mountain! We are now driving into the far reaches of the ADK Park to climb and finish up these mountains. The trail was mostly dry and the forest was crisp and still as we wound our way to the top. We met Sam and J.J. (two great 46rs) just below the summit and had a nice time exchanging stories with them. The trail turned icy after we left them but we toughed it out to the top. Our summit time was perfect as we sunbathed, climbed the tower and ate lunch on a beautiful ledge with an amazing view. This is the first tower I’ve been able to climb all the way to the cab! Starting down after well over an hour on top, we opted to use microspikes over the icy portion and were very glad we did. Just before the trailhead, we mistakenly turned onto a snowmobile trail. I soon noticed the absence of trail markers and we soon turned around and backtracked to the correct route. We capped of the trip with a stop at Hoss’s Store in Long Lake!
