Owls Head 8/7/09

Hike in from Lincoln Woods muddy in spots, especially on return after morning showers. USGS water flow for East Branch of Pemi read 366 (ft per second?) early in the morning, and 2 larger crossings were rockhopped by one member of party, and knee deep when waded by the rest. Other crossings were no problem.

The poor dead moose is untouched by scavengers, and right in the middle of the trail at the bottom of the slide. You can go down to the left to avoid walking over her. The smell was not as bad as anticipated.

Special Equipment: Hiking poles, gaiters (would have been nice, but left in car), extra pair dry socks and small towel to dry feet after crossings.

The path from old summit to new summit is easy to follow as it appears fairly well used.
