Trail in quite good shape for skiing today: about 8" compacted dense powder base with about 2 feet off the sides in the woods. Trail is u-slot with 6" sides but soft enough to ski through and into the woods to mitigate the steeps on the descent. Stream crossings were barely covered as were most rocks.
Warmth and rain predicted for tomorrow will almost definitely wash out stream crossings and expose rocks and logs. Thaw and re-freeze could make breakable thick crust off trail making sweeping turns in the woods for descent very difficult.
Today all was well for a perfect Winter Solstice afternoon ski. Didn't see another soul on the trail, unless woodpeckers have souls!
