There is some posts if you search that give accounts of were and how to get to the summit. Some recent some olders.
From what I read I believe there is a path north from the old summit to the new one. You have to go over three bumps. I'm not sure but someone said there is a carin there now. But as you know the rangers might have taken that one down.
Maybe someone here has retained all the info about the "True Summit" to condense it to one post now. There's been lot's of talk about it all with some looking for pics, etc.
I do have the Garmin Mapsourse track to the false summit from 04 if you want it I'll email it. From there I belive the True Summit, were X is on the USGS Map,is North about 1/10 of a mi.

Hope this helps..

The new summit is about 1/4 mile north of the old summit. It is a bushwhack, any herd paths take you off the ridge. One must stay on the ridge to get to the new summit and the 'Owl's Head' sign.

Nice job I knew someone would have it together about Owlshead here.
I came up with .16 of a mile on NGTopo but what the heck.

I'm sending my son to OwlsHead with the GPS to see were on the map the sign might be now. It's such a oblong type of shape. I'm just curious. Usually the summit signs,Carin's show their on the money when I transfer the GPS data into NGTopo.

Pucknuts, my sister and I were on Owl's Head this past weekend. We tried finding the new summit, but just couldnt find it. The advice given by almost EVERYONE who has been to the new summit says "STAY HIGH". Most people are tempted to take herd paths that are visible off to the left. This will take you down off the ridge. But untill more people start heading there no defined herd path should be visible (Steve Smith told us this one a couple of weeks ago.) Im pretty sure we came very close, within a few dozen feet of what we were looking for, but we were all feeling a bit down on the weather and decided not to keep looking. Id still like to see the new summit some day, though.
