Date of Hike: 7/27/13
Trail Conditions: All trails are in good shape. All the brook crossings were easy, though a couple were knee-deep waders. I wear trail runners and just barreled through, not having to worry about trying in vain to keep my feet dry. The so-called whack up the slide is better-marked than a lot of "real" trails. The herd paths on the ridge are confusing.
Special Equipment Required: Poles- useful crossing the brooks
Comments: Optional - The walk in, though, long, is easy and pleasant. The hike up the slide, though short, is tough. The crowd was Franconia Ridge-esque. The USFS needs to admit that Owl's Head is NOT a whack, and do something about the proliferation of herd-paths on the ridge, turning it into an eroded and degraded mess.
