Spring conditions and winter conditions exist throughout the hike up. The road from the parking lot to the turn to the blue trail is all snow. It was iced over in the AM but on the return out it was much softer. These conditions also exist throughout the hike. The walk to Bradley pond on the blue trail was do-able in the AM with just some stablicers, but in the PM on the walk out, I used snowshoes. Others with me managed without, but with some significant post holing. The yellow blazes are out there still, but if you are going to rely on them keep a close look out for them because with the snow they are not as visible. The hike up panther brook was a steady climb with much more vertical as you come closer to times square. At times square, there was some remnants of trail, but was easy to get turned around. We missed the main trail but bushwacked and roamed around until we, by chance, found the main trail leading to Panther. Good views at the top with little snow at the summit.
The return trip down was quick..until you got to the seemingly never ending road....
10.5 hour round trip. Stablicers/crampons & Snowshoes recommended!
