Can you say BUSHWHACK???
Had plotted a course on topo map and numbered points 1 to 6 then summit.
Started from the wrong road, but actually a better access point. Headed for point 4 after crossing the bridge. Started on logging roads for short while then headed off into the woods. went up over a ridge, through some brush and blowdown area, crossed a brook(great "poem" on Moose antler!!! anyone seen it ) and headed up.
Got to point 4(44 13.942N/71 33.966W) then 5, then 6(44 13.578N/71 33.966W) then the real fun began! Got steeper(some ice), thicker(spots) w/mixed blowdown. Just put my hood on, head down and pushed/squeezed through some real thick "stuff". Eventhough there wasn't much snow I still went thru lots of spruce traps...to think...some folks actually like(love?) this stuff!
Didn't even think about goin back...if I did would have to come back for more "fun" I wasn't worried as I'd started @ 7:23 and it was a short(but tough) distance...about 2 1/2 to 3 miles @ the most(?). It opened up some as I got close ...ahh @ least the top will be open!
Wrong! Back into the brush when what should appear...a "3813" canister!!! I made it!!!!...and there was a small clearing with nice views!!! I'd barebooted the whole ways w/snowshoes & crampons along for the ride! It was warm, clear and no wind...ahhh, life is Great
Doing something I seldom do...I opened the tube and got the note book out. After "signing in" I looked @ previous entries...from 10-22 "a fun EASY hike"!!! I wanna no how you came up!!! Guess bein with 8 others on a nice day would help Love you folks!!!
It had taken me 3 hours 28 minutes and 16(smile) seconds for the memorable journey. Believe it or not...my "dream goal" for the day had been to continue over to North Twin, pick up the trail, go over South Twin down to Galehead(bag it) then head toward Garfield...gotta have a DREAM
I just followed my trail(which wasn't even easy in spots!) back to my car Only took 2:16:45 down...ahhh, an early day! Headed back to Craftsbury to see how Donna made out in the Marathon...but that's another story *smile*
