Trails taken from Four Way Jct: 4
Conditions: The Mast Trail is in excellent condition. The Lawrence Trail becomes slightly erroded as it climbs the steep switchbacks to Paugus. There were some deep mud pits and a few easily negotiated blowdowns on the Square Ledge Trail. Also a relatively new blowdown patch on one end of Square Ledge that has made on of the view points difficult to visit (we didn't try). Square Ledge Trail beyond Passaconnaway Cutoff was a running stream. The Walden Trail is in excellent shape, although the wet boulders made the descent from Passaconnaway difficult. Wonalancet Range Trail is in very good shape to Hibbard. Final descent on Walden to Four Way Jct wet and muddy and tough on tired legs. Amazing end of day view of Paugus with Chocoruhua looming high above from the last viewpoint on the Walden Trail made this long tough day totally worth every step!!!
Dog Related: Water on Mast Trail, Lawrence Trail past Cabin Tr Jct, mid way on Square Ledge Trail before climb, Col between Wonalancet Hedgehog and Hibbard on Walden Trail.
