Pawtuckaway: South Peak via South Ridge Trail, Round Pond Road
I know this isn't exactly a destination peak for most peakbaggers, but this was my first post-op hike since my knee surgery.
The mosquitos are definitely out in force, even with today's cooler temps. I opted to wear my rain jacket on the return to fend of the ravenous attackers.
The trail is in very good shape and Round Pond Road has received some excellent maintenance from heavy equipment. All of the "washboard" ruts have been smoothed out and the parking area shows no signs of spring erosion.
The distance indicated on a sign at the lot indicates that this is a 2.2 mile hike (one way of course). I made a personal best time of 40 minutes and enjoyed some refreshing winds on the fire tower.
