Barbarossa and I decided, that since we both only had Sunday available to play in the woods, that we did not want to invest 5 hours of driving to go to the Whites. I suggested PSP, which is a favorite place of mine, and is only a short drive for Southern NH and MA hikers. This park consists of nearly 5600 acres of wonderful outdoor use terrain. Three small mountains, all with a single trail, one of which even has a fire tower, several ponds, huge erratic boulders, 3 "lost" cemeteries, stone walls galore, and absolutely no crowds. The north peak has many open ledges, a cave, the Devil's Den, and an almost big mountain feel to it, with views towards the Manadnock region, and from the east end you can see Portsmouth and the sun relflecting off the ocean, under the right conditions. Sunday there was light snow, but we did manage to get some views of the local peaks. We saw only one other hiker the entire day. We did some trails and some nice open woods bushwacking to the middle peak. All in all, it is a fun place to go when you don't have the time, or motivation, to go further north.
