I thought some of you might be interested in the Hawk Watch tomorrow in Brownfield Maine. It should be a good day.
Tin Mountain Presents Two Programs on Migrating Hawks
As fall creeps in and temperatures drop, most hawks, eagles, osprey and falcons of the northeast begin a journey south to warmer climates where food is abundant through the winter months. Their highways of travel are the ridge-tops of the Appalachian Mountains. Join naturalist Chris Lewey of RAVEN Interpretive Programs for a two-part program on these extraordinary birds of prey. On Thursday, September 20 at 7 PM at Tin Mountain’s Nature Learning Center on Bald Hill Road in Albany, Lewey will hold a “Hawk Talk” as he covers the basics of identification marks, flight, and behavior of common migrating hawks of the Northeast.
Then on Saturday, September 22 from 8-11AM, enjoy a short hike to the summit of Peary Mountain in Brownfield, ME looking for a variety of birds of prey and signs of fall. Participants should bring a pair of binoculars, or borrow one from Tin Mountain, and meet Lewey at 8AM at Grant’s Store in Brownfield. Please call 603-447-6991 for reservations.
The Tin Mountain Nature Program Series is sponsored by L.L. Bean and the Evenor Armington Fund. Programs are open to the public. Members are free, and non-members are asked to donate $3/person or $5/family. For directions and more information, please call 603-447-6991.
