Conditions: Van Hovenberg Trail to Marcy Dam has usual post-rain mud. Beyond dam, just wet. No need to use the high water route, crossing was easy. Red marked trail to Phelps was wet, with one tiny patch of thin, melting ice (just a few inches in diameter) noted about 8/10th mile from junction. 1/2 inch snow in trees up there, when I passed through around 10:30 a.m. It was already melting, and dripping on me, as I descended shortly after.
Special Equipment: I liked having water-proof gloves, for holding onto wet rocks or trees. I carried Stabilicers, but certainly did not need them.
Comments: One couple told me they had inquired at the HPIC about trail conditions are were told there was 4 inches of snow on Algonquin this morning.
