From Loj to Marcy Dam trail is in great shape, just a few muddy spots easily avoided. Dam onward there were wet spots, not too hard to stay relatively clean rock hopping although on the phelps trail itself there were a few full ponds near the summit and sections of mud and water.
Equipment: I only had poles and light hiking sneakers, boots and maybe gaiters would be useful, although not necessary.
Comments: Wasn't expecting too much from the summit but was pleasantly surprised at the great views of the surrounding peaks. Relatively easy Adirondack hike for the payback - plus Marcy dam is nice to spend a little time at, especially with the leaves starting to turn
